Sharing Space Through Art :Being Apart of Something
I’ve recently observed an artistic anniversary, its been one year since the end of my Tead One residency. It was an interesting change of course, I always knew comics was my home and where I want to live artistically, but I am an illustrator at heart, and I started experimenting in the sketchbook being very liberal with making marks, playing with the variables in the line work. I guess the Residency came at the right time in my artistic journey. Its lead me to some great opportunities, and I owe a lot of my recent successes to the majority of people I’ve met in the past year.
Participating in various Art exhibits and shows around the city, being invited to talk and interview about art, its really cool just to know that people are interested in what I do. I think I get caught up in the “money chase” aspect. The hustle consumes me to the point I forget, that art is fun! And its great when people think what I make is worth talking to about.
This Interview was done by Dearborn Public TV, and I was promoting the group show I was apart of at the Dearborn Community Center. I got those overalls for Christmas, and I love ‘em! I wear ‘em pretty much once a week. They’re sooo handy. I love them so much my girlfriend bought me another pair, add now my wardrobe is “50% Overalls,” so I’m basically rich now.
The show was cool, It’s nice to be recognized as a member of an artist community, What I didn’t sell will get bought somewhere down the road. I love having a room of my paintings but, I don’t want to be a collector of my own work. And I went from only having a few paintings, to a bunch, reaaaaly quickly!! I look forward to the ones I’ve made eventually finding a home. It’s always a great feeling to me, seeing how happy people are when they get something from me. I don’t take commissions, so when they get something I imagined out of the clear blue sky, it means they like a tiny piece of my brain. It’s like a hug, but for your soul.
The spring/ summer season is coming up, I’ve got some stuff already lined up for the coming months, It’ll be a busy one for sure. I hope I’m ready.
